Our honeymoon without the kids

by Nick Bowditch on March 28, 2009

Hi all!

I’m Michael, one half of Michael and Lyndsay. I’m 38 years old and Lynds is 28 years old. We have 3 kids between us, Lyndsay’s son Brayden (9 years) and our daughter Laycie (5 years) and son Caleb (16 months).

We have been together for seven years and have spent the last year or so planning a wedding and all the things that go along with it. I have to admit, I have done things a little backwards…

The wedding was ‘agreed to’, the planning was started, the honeymoon was planned, the buck’s party was organised, the ring was purchased – and then 2 weeks ago I popped the question (finally, so I was told!).

And in case you’re wondering – Lyndsay said yes!

So it’s official. Now it just comes down to counting the days. 198 days to the wedding, 200 days till the honeymoon… whoo hoo!!

As far as our story goes, this is a blog about our family and the planning of our honeymoon.

When we first spoke about a honeymoon, Lynds was keen to go to Fiji. I have to admit that Fiji, whilst I’m sure is lovely, did not appeal to me. I’m not one of those people who likes a resort based holiday. I like to get out and about and see and experience as much as possible.

Lynds was looking at resorts with amazing kids clubs, and I was looking at relatives to mind the kids at home while we went to a hotel without a kids club!

Don’t take that the wrong way – I love my kids, but I was adamant that the honeymoon was always supposed to be “us time”.

We sort of came to an unofficial agreement that Lynds was going to organise most of the wedding (I do have some input) and I was going to plan the honeymoon, with Lyndsay to agree to any ideas etc.

I have always wanted to go to Thailand so things started with comparing holiday brochures of Fiji and Thailand and starting to ask questions of people who had been to either. As time went by I lent more and more towards Thailand and eventually succeeded in getting Lyndsay to agree with me.

Destination agreed upon, first decision successfully made.

And as we were soon to find out, that first decision would be one of the easier ones, as the next few decisions to make such as the big one, where to stay, are not as easy as they seem.

Unless of course you have the help of a friend of nearly 30 years, who has own travel consultancy, who has years of personal travel experience to countries all over the world, who is always willing to help and answer any questions with excellent advice and ideas.

Without the help of Nick Bowditch I have no doubt that organising this honeymoon would have been a lot more complicated and stressful than it has been.

So a big thanks to Nick from Lyndsay and myself, and the recommendation to anyone planning a holiday of any sort to give Nick a call for personal and professional travel planning.

Well, that’s it for this first entry. Stay tunes for updates in the near future on the honeymoon planning process, and the countdown until we get married and go to Thailand. I hope you will enjoy our story. Keep reading!

Cheers
