FAMILY TRAVEL: Australia’s Best Caravan Park

Whether it’s a return to family values, the Global Financial Crisis or just the eternal search for the best value in family travel, the humble Aussie caravan park is making something of a comeback.

Traditionally they have never really been very flash and the majority of them still survive on the back of powered sites where people drag their own caravan around the country and unpowered tent sites which start from as little as $6 per night!

But some of them now have much better, and much more expensive, upgrade options. Permanent cabins, two and even 3 bedroom choices for big families and still on (usually) the best bit of real estate in town.

So what is Australia’s favourite caravan park? A quick survey today on Facebook and Twitter returned many of the usual suspects:

Our contributor Peace Mitchell voted for “the Lake Tinaroo Caravan Park, (in Tinaroo Falls, North Queensland) in fact we’re heading up there this weekend, its right next to the Lake and has great facilities for families, they also offer canoe hire and have fishing supplies available too.”

Mary-Louise Clifford, who runs a successful day care business on the Central Coast voted for Swansea Gardens Lakeside Holiday Park, at Swansea in NSW. “We stay at Swansea gardens with my preschool and they are great. They have a space we go back to each year where the kids can ride bikes etc safely they tolerate the squeals it is close to everything but quiet.”

Jaki Metcalf, who has her own small family voted for Happy Hallidays at Hallidays Point in NSW. “Keeps my ferals entertained, safe & has everything there. Tractor train rides, jumping pillow, indoor play centre, pool & beach down the road…Great!”

Others that got repeated votes were Crescent Head Holiday Park and Trial Bay Caravan Park in South West Rocks, and my personal favourite Scotts Head Holiday Park all on the Mid North Coast of NSW.

So what’s your favourite Aussie caravan park? Please leave your votes below.
